The importance of hosting National Para Games in different cities and districts has been emphasized in order to enhance the quality of the sports for people with impairments, to promote balanced development of people with impairments around different cities and provinces, and to expand the interests toward sports games for people with impairments.
The National Para Games have been developing since 1981, the year of people with impairments designated by the UN. Before then, there were only few Games that were categorized by each impairment group. Such Games included the National Sports Games for Youth with impairments held by Jeongnip Center, the National sports Games for the people with impairments Veterans organized by the Disabled Veteran’s Association of South Korea, The Soccer Game for the Intellectually Impaired and so on. However, The National Para Games was first sports event that included all type of impairment.
