Cho Minkyong (48) and Jeong Taeyeong (53,
both from Changwon City Hall), win gold at World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles
Curling Championship 2024 held in Gangneung. This marks the first time that
Korea has won a world championship in any of the curling disciplines.
In this tournament, where 21 countries
participated, Cho Minkyong and Jeong Taeyeong dominated from the qualifiers,
finishing at the top of their group with 5 wins and 1 loss. Advancing to the playoffs, they won against Estonia
7-4 in the quarterfinals and Italy 9-6 in the semifinals, securing their spot
in the final. In the final match, Korea took the lead from the beginning,
scoring 5 points in the first four ends while conceding only 1 point to China.
Although China scored 1 point in the fifth end, Korea extended their lead by
scoring 3 points in the sixth end, claiming gold as China withdrew the game in
the eighth end.
